What an aching nostalgia your photographs evoked! My Grandfather, Horace D Poole was apprenticed at the Saltwells Colliery and later managed Warren's Hall, Titford, Primrose, Knowle and then Baggeridge. After that he was Managing Director at Hamstead. He died in 1974 at the age of 95. I found your photographs of the Cobb's Engine House at Warren's Hall (not in the gallery) and the stables at Primrose particularly poignant He must have known these well! Thank you.

So nice to see the pictures and read the history of Baggeridge colliery where my grandad used to work! I am trying to trace anyone who has memories / knowledge / pictures, of a man by the name of jack Willetts who used to drive a horse and cart around the wrens nest, and priory estates, in the late 50's and early 60's selling fruit and veg from the cart. He lived in Laurel Road Dudley, and the yard was in Pelham Street or St James Terrace...PLEASE send any info you may have! I will be a regular visitor to this excellent site. Thank you.

My Grand Father Arthur Reynolds owned a Blacksmiths in Dudley around 1900. My father worked in the forge until the 1st world war, but after he came out of the army he went into running cinema's. The first in Dudley next to the forge, he married my mother while running the Grand Cinema in Kingswinford in 1924, then moved to Coventry to run numerous cinema's for the Philpot Circuit till his retirement in 1960. My Grandfather died in 1952 and is buried in St. John's churchyard, though I have been unable to find the grave, yet. Super site I will revisit often now that I have found it. Thanks for putting it online.

Hi, I'd just like to say how much I enjoyed looking at the photos in the Agenoria section. I grew up in Gornal and used to spend a lot of time in Himley and Ellowes woods, and I was always fascinated by the mining remains. I still have a few bits and pieces from Baggeridge Colliery, found after it closed, as well as photos taken by my father when it was still open. The capped shafts in Ellowes Wood belonged to the London Fields Colliery, which had it's office in Robert Street in Upper Gornal.

A very interesting site with some of the history of the W Midlands. I am doing reseach on the 'Cochrane' family who are my relatives on my mother's side, and who was a daughter of Walter Cochrane. I believe that the family were IronMasters around Stourbridge from the mid 1800's, and owned the Woodside Iron Works until the early 1900's. Good to see so much creative work done. Richard

I found your site very interesting, informative and well formed. Do you have any information on Jonathan Binns and his son William? They were Quaker surveyors and cartographers of Lancaster and Birmingham closely assosiated with George Stephenson of railway fame around the 1830s and appear to have done some work in the Staffordshire area. The Binns collection at Liverpool Record Office has a map showing this area with Wilden and Wolverley Forge (Overley I think on the map).

I lived on Dunn's Bank, Quarry Bank until the end of 1956, when we left for Canada. I attended St. Joseph's in Stourbridge. Names I remember: John Cunneen, Jane Allsop, Eileen Sowerby, Gary Compson, Patrick Feely, Kevin O'Dwyer, Roger ....?(sorry Rog), Maureen McConnologue? (if I butchered yer last name, sorry Maureen), Patrick Sullivan, teachers, Miss Heinz, Caggy Shiner, and Mr. Gafferty (I think). Thing I remember most about being at St. Joseph's? a certain cheese and onion flavoured pie often served up at dinner time in the cafeteria accross the road from the school. My e-mail box is always open.
